Ivan Frank Altamura

Obituary

It is with a deep sense of sadness and grief that we share the sudden and unexpected passing of Ivan Altamura (53), on Saturday, August 8th. While his loved ones are still in a state of shock, they are surrounded by a loving extended family, a supportive church family, his colleagues at Capitol Advocacy and more personal friends than can be counted.

Ivan was one of a kind. He had the unique ability to be everyone’s best friend. He was the kind of person that people were drawn to because of his warmth, sense of humor, and a zest for life that epitomized his Italian upbringing. Anyone who has spent any time with Ivan knows that he was the first person to make you laugh, the first to encourage you to chase your dreams, and the most loyal friend you could hope to find. His passion for life was infectious. If you were going to be with Ivan, you were going to laugh. He exuded joy.

Ivan has many passions, he loved to ski, boat, have big barbecues, and other family gatherings at his home, but none greater than his faith in Christ and his family. Alisa, Nikolas, and Marina were his greatest passion, as well as his parents Augusto and Louise Altamura, and his in-laws, John and Morleen Whittington, all who lived close and were able to model a loving, supportive, 3 generation family.

Ivan became a part of the Capitol Community in 2004 after building a successful law practice in Fresno. He transitioned to Sacramento as Chief of Staff for an Assembly Member and went on to serve as COS for two different Republican Leaders. After he accomplished his goals in the Capitol, he joined the Capitol Advocacy family, where he thrived representing a diverse clientele before the CA legislature. He was proud to be a part of the Capitol Advocacy team and considered them family.

Ivan, we miss you, and love you. We will see you again, where the streets are paved with gold, the boat rides on the Delta never end and the ski slopes are filled with powder. Well done thy good and faithful servant.

His memorial will be held 10:00am Saturday, August 22nd, 2020 at Creekside Christian Church with a reception to follow at his family home.

My thoughts and prayers are with Ivan’s family. I remember when he first moved to Sacramento to work with Mike and our discussion was about why he would leave a law practice to work at the Capitol. It was about friendship I will miss talking about our kids and hear how proud he was of their accomplishments.

My prayers go out to his wife, kids and family.
