Imogene (Grammer) West passed away Thursday April 10, 2014 at 80 years of age.
The daughter of Lilburn “Tubby” and Gladys Oaks Grammer was born March 27, 1934 in Bentonville, Arkansas. Imogene’s parents passed away early in her life so she was primarily raised by her grandparents, Tate and Rose Grammer. As a young girl she and her family traveled between Arkansas, Kansas and California. It was in California, at the KCVR radio station that Imogene met country and western singer Kelly West. A short time later at the age of 15 Imogene Grammer married Calvin L. “Kelly” West. Soon after their marriage the newlywed couple became ministers of the gospel. As a young wife Imogene followed her husband as he evangelized , pastored and held numerous camp meetings. Imogene’s passion was singing, and she was often referred to as “singing Imogene”. Even after the passing of her husband, Imogene continued to minister through music. Since she never had a drivers license her friends were her transportation. They would pick her up and travel throughout the San Joaquin Valley attending as many gospel singings and they could. She continued singing, until her health forced her to quit. Imogene didn’t have many hobbies, but believed greatly in keeping everything clean and tidy. Her faith kept her strong, and she was a proud member of the Woodbridge Pentecostal Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Liburn and Gladys Grammer; and husband Calvin.
