Honorato Nalzaro, 81, of Windward Hills Estates, Guam and Rancho Cordova, CA, passed away on April 14, 2015 after a brief but courageous battle against stomach cancer. He was born January 15, 1934 in Calape, Bohol, Philippines, the son of a farmer/fisherman, Felimon and Bernarda Nalzaro. He studied law at the University of the Visayas in Cebu, Philippines but left school to pursue a career in the US Navy.

Always self motivated and positive, Honorato was fortunate to be accepted by the US Navy and enlisted in 1958. At that time, Filipinos were limited to ‘Steward’ rating; however through hard work and perseverance he was able to transition to ‘Disbursing Clerk’. During his 24 year career in the Navy, he served on several ships (USS Camp, USS Wiltsie, USS Terrebonne Parish, USS Capricornus) and brought his young family to several duty stations (Pensacola, FL; Norfolk, VA; Lakehurst, NJ; Sigonella, Sicily, Italy; and Guam). He retired as Chief Disbursing Clerk.

After retirement from the Navy, Honorato worked as a civil servant for the Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) on Guam and later transferred with the office to Oakland, CA. He retired from DFAS in 1997 and spent his retirement years traveling with his first wife Natividad and visiting his children and grandchildren in California and Italy.

Honorato is survived by his wife Arlene, his children Hector (Giulia), Nanette (Fred), daughter-in-law Celerina Nalzaro, grandchildren: Nicholas, Christopher, Michelle and Megan, his sister Corazon Teringtering and several nieces and nephews around the world. He is pre-deceased by his first wife of 48 years, Natividad and his son, Joel Nalzaro.
