Our beloved Harvey Lewis Schuette, 82, passed away unexpectedly on March 20th, 2019 during his recovery from an intracerebral hemorrhage that occurred on February 5th, 2019.
Harvey was born in Glencoe, MN to Herman and Helen Schuette in 1936. He grew up on the family farm until he graduated high school and immediately enlisted in the US Air Force. Already speaking his native German language and English, he was sent to Syracuse University to study Russian and serve his role in the military as a decoder. Following his honorable discharge from the military, he pursued his passion to enroll in flight school. From the age of 12, all Harvey dreamed of was being a pilot. He served the majority of his career 35 years as a pilot and Captain with Transamerica Airlines and Southern Air Transport. He traveled the world and was involved in many exhilarating ventures. Harvey married Carole Papa and had a daughter Kim. He married Carla Kitchens in 1967 had two children, Lisa Marie and Matthew Cole, and were married for 52 years. He learned carpentry from his father-in-law William Kitchens, and developed another passion in life – building. He obtained his general contractors’ license and together with his father-in-law and uncle, built his family home.
Harvey is survived by his wife, Carla Schuette, daughter Lisa Elliott, daughter Kim Nolywaika, son Matt Schuette, grandchildren Riley, Cooper, Payton, Olivia, Noah, Josef, sister Harriet Jahnke, son-in-law Scott, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Helaine Litzau, and grandson Hans Nolywaika.
Harvey was a kind soul, a compassionate and caring man, and loved the important things in life – his family. He knew what it meant to work hard for your goals and never give up, no matter what the obstacle. He had an impact on many lives and we would be honored to live up to such a wonderful human being. Rest in Peace.
