MORIMOTO, Grace Kiyo

Passed away peacefully in Sacramento, CA on March 25, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 30, 1919 in Walnut Grove, CA. She is survived by daughters Carole Chong (Jerry) and Julie Kunisaki (Rodney), and son Neil Morimoto (Kathi); grandchildren Garret and Krystyn Chong, Bradd, Tania, and Danielle Morimoto, and Jessica, Joel, and David Kunisaki; and sister Helen (Kats) Tanaka. Grace was preceded in death by her parents Kazuo and Kiyoye Nikaido, her loving husband George Morimoto, daughter Phyllis Morimoto, and sisters May Ishida and June Sakamoto. Grace learned Ikebana, a formal Japanese flower arrangement, when she was interned at the Jerome, AR Concentration Camp. Grace became a Master of Ikebana and achieved the highest-ranking Ikebana teaching certificate. She started her own business in 1966, Kiyo’s Floral Shop, which she operated for 20 years. Grace gave tirelessly of her time and beautiful gifts of floral arrangement in many non-profit community events. Grace was an avid golfer, cherished her family, shared the beauty and wonder of her artwork, and truly enjoyed a life well lived. Grace will be greatly missed by her family, relatives, friends and the community. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 30, 2012 at the Buddhist Church of Sacramento, 2401 Riverside Blvd., Sacramento, CA.
