Sacramento, CA. Ms. Golden Angel (Suddeth) Harris was born of Walter Haze Suddeth and Lula Leola (Roby) Suddeth on April 24, 1929 in St. Louis, MO. Golden attended public elementary school and Sumner High school in St. Louis and became one of the first ten African-American students to attend St. Louis University from which she graduated in 1948 with her Bachelors of Science degree in Biology at 19 years of age! Go-Go received her Master’s Degree in Science from St. Louis University one short year later in 1949. While a student at St. Louis U, Go-Go was initiated into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated which she remained actively devoted to for a period in excess of fifty years! Golden was married to her college sweetheart, Stanford Eugene Harris, a naval officer and aerospace engineer and they settled in Los Angeles, CA to raise their five children: Victoria; Valerie; Mark; Eric and Michael. Golden was a master science teacher and served in a variety of roles within the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). Golden was a classroom teacher; a guidance counselor; a college counselor; and a vice-principal over her ‘first’ year career. After retiring from LAUSD, Golden moved to Sacramento, California in 1991, where she began her ‘second’ career as an educator. Golden worked at Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson’s St. Hope Academy and Sacramento Charter High School; she worked as a substitute teacher with the Sacramento City Unified School District; as a volunteer with the Kennedy High School Scholar’s Program and an adjunct professor with the Los Rios Community College District. Go-Go led a very active life in Sacramento where she was a member of the Eta Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated; a member of the Kosmos Civic Club, Incorporated; participated in events hosted by 100 Black Women, Incorporated; and was an active leader of Centennial United Methodist Church, which according to her pastor, ‘adored her.’ Golden is survived by her sisters Louise Dennis of Santa Clara, California and Sylvia Ragland of Chicago, Illinois; her children Victoria (Harris) Dias of Los Angeles; Valerie (Harris) Brooks of Los Angeles; Attorney Mark T. Harris and Dr. Marianna Y. Harris of Sacramento; Eric W. Harris and Sonya Harris of Sacramento; Michael A. Harris of Los Angeles; grandchildren Donald R. Dias, Jr.; Victoria A. Eley of Oakland; Natasha and Chris Wesson; Nicole and Joaquin Arroyo; Eric M. Harris; Jazmine Golden Harris; Martin T. Harris; Joshua M. Harris; Lillieanne E. Harris; Leviticus E. Harris; Jeremiah J. Harris; Titus N. Harris and great-grandchildren Julian Arroyo; Ariyanna Wesson and Matthew Arroyo all of Sacramento.
