A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Glenda passed away on July 25, 2019 after a brief and valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on March 28, 1946 in Fresno, California, the oldest daughter of Ocus and Vivian Cagle. Glenda graduated from Alhambra High School and was united in marriage to her sweetheart, Oscar B. Hicks Jr. , on February 22, 1964 in Fresno, California. He preceded her in death on December 18, 1997.
She was very proud of her family and loved being a grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchild. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends, and many supporters carried her through two months of grueling chemotherapy. Yet even throughout her own struggle with cancer, she remained devoted to her family and friends. Glenda loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many who witnessed her compassion and selflessness. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smiling and nurturing love will never be forgotten.
She is lovingly survived by her son, Kevin (Nicole) Hicks of El Dorado Hills, California; three loving grandchildren; Derrick (Ruby) Hicks of Lake Forrest, California, Kaylee Brianna Hicks of Denver, Colorado, Tanner Freer of El Dorado Hills, California, and Sara Spies of Pullman, Washington; and her beautiful great-granddaughter, Charlotte Hicks. She is also survived by her sister, Beth (Claude) Sprinkel of Rocklin, California and step brother Lenny (Laura) Poore; plus, numerous nephews, cousins, friends and family.
In-lieu of flower donations, monetary donations may be made in her honor to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation or American Cancer Society.
