Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend went to be with our Lord and Savior, Sunday evening, Dec. 26, 2010. Born June 27, 1912 in North Dakota. Jerry was the last of his family of 9 children born of Norwegian immigrants. In early years he worked for the So. Pacific Railroad, U.S. Naval Shipyard, Lutheran Social Services, and retired from the U.S. Post Office. He was very active in Sons of Norway, charter member of the former Gloria Dei Luth. Church, sang with his brothers and nephew in the Karlstad Family Quartet. He is survived by his wife, Irene (Akland), of 68 years of marriage, son Philip and wife Lilia, daughter Joyce and husband Robert Borrud; grandchildren John (Heather) Karlstad, Mark (Deanna) Karlstad, Sergei M, Ruth Borrud, Kathryn Borrud, Peter (Sarah) Borrud; 2 precious great-grandsons, Logan and Ethan; Special “daughter” Janet Moe and family; Sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, wonderful neighbors and friends.
We’ll always remember his wonderful smile, twinkle in his eyes, generosity to so many, beautiful bass voice, fantastic memory, and deep Christian faith.
Memorial Services at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Arden and Morse Ave. Monday, Jan. 3, at 1pm. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or Mercy Hospice.
