Gerald Robert Arthur
Aug 13, 1933 - Sep 20, 2012
Our father, Gerald R. Arthur, passed away unexpectedly the morning of September 20, 2012, while in the comforting embrace of our mother, his wife of 53 years, Patti A. Arthur. Dad was born on August 13, 1933, in Sacramento to parents George and Florence Arthur. Growing up in Elverta, Dad completed his lower education at Grant Union High School, class of 1952. Upon graduation, Dad entered the U.S. Navy in the spring of 1953 where he served on the U.S.S. Yorktown as an electronics technician. Following his service in the Navy, Dad pursued his love of the arts with his studies at American River College (formerly Grant Tech), obtaining an Associates Degree. He continued his study of art while attending CSU, Sacramento. When practical considerations became necessary, Dad embarked on what would become a 34 year career at Safeway Stores, 21 of those years as a Store Manager. However, he never gave up on his passion and continued to perfect his artistic talents throughout the years, becoming an accomplished woodworking craftsman. Dad is survived by his loving wife, Patti, and his three boys Kent, Craig and Gary; Kent’s wife, Chris, and their three children Jennifer, Jason, and Stephanie; Craig’s girlfriend, Shellie White, and his two children Logan and Heather; and Gary’s partner, Steve Allen. Dad is also survived by two older brothers, Dale Rogers and George Arthur. And we cannot forget to include Dad’s loyal, four-legged, furry companion, Moki! Dad was preceded in death by his parents and an older brother, Malcolm Rogers. Dad’s memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 27, at 11:00 in the chapel of the East Lawn Cemetery at 5757 Greenback Lane. A celebration of his life will follow at the family home immediately after the memorial. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Grant Union High School Alumni Association at PO Box 660412, Sacramento, CA, 95866, in the name of Gerald R. Arthur, Class of 1952.
