Georgene “Dodie” Skaggs May 8. 1938 – Feb. 17, 2014 Dodie passed away into a better life in Roseville, California after a courageous 6 month battle with stage IV Lung Cancer that had spread to her bones. She was surrounded by her family. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love, hope and prayers of her husband, children, family, friends, and many supporters carried her through 6 months of chemotherapy with amazing grace.

 Georgene “Dodie” Nickell was born on May 8, 1938 in San Diego, California to Morton and Georgina Nickell.
Dodie was a loving and devoted wife to Carl Skaggs, the loving mother of four daughters and two sons; beloved sister; devoted grandmother to 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and a caring aunt. A friend to all who knew her.
She possessed a contagious smile and a servant’s heart. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of the many lives she touched, who even now are being changed by her witness of constant nurturing love and faith.

She worked most her career as a legal Secretary for the Sacramento County retiring from the Courts system as a Superior Court Clerk. Dodie enjoyed and excelled at every task she was given.
She met her Sweetheart, Carl Skaggs, while working in downtown Sacramento . They were married that same year. They made a home on their ranch near Elk Grove California. Married for 41 years, Dodie & Carl raised their combined 6 dear children, James , Anna, Charlene, Sherri, Mark and Sandi. Both of Dodie’s sons preceded her in death. Possessing a true servant’s heart, Dodie faithfully cared for family and friends. A woman of faith and the heart of the family, Dodie shaped their spirituality by her tireless Christian example, and also through various groups and activities. With a real zest for life, Dodie loved to help others, chat and dine with friends and family, and travel the world. She loved to go on outings as Carl’s navigator and each trip and was always a great adventure. After the couple’s retirement, they moved to Placerville, California and made many new close friends.

Mother of 6 Children & Partners: James (deceased) and Robin Jay, Anna and Dennis Hooper, Charlene and David Neely, Sherri and David Carvajal, Mark Alan Jay,(deceased) Sandi and Rob Benson .
Immediate family: Brother: Douglas Nickell and partner Gayle.
Grandmother to 12 adoring Grandchildren 13 Great Grandchildren
Other family members: Many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins

The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support in many heart-felt forms from so many people, including: Kaiser Roseville emergency, Kasier 1Staff, family and friends – either through prayer and/or visits, neighbors, and even random acts of kindness.

A Memorial Service and Ice Cream Social will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 10:00 am at the Trinity Life Center 5225 Hillsdale Blvd Sacramento, CA 95842. Private inurnment has been held at Sierra Hills Memorial Park, Sacramento. Contributions in Dodie’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society.

    She was a wonderful friend and co-worker. She was the clerk for Judge Lewis and I was the court reporter. I will always remember her. She taught me how to make a great pie crust! I’m sorry, I did not know she passed away. I loved her a lot.
