Obituary

Gene Vincent Oxley Died October 1, 2020 at UC Davis Medical center in Sacramento, California after a hard fought battle with cancer. He was born on March 26, 1964 in South Bend Indiana son of Sherwood and Dianna (Findley) Oxley. He graduated in 1982 from Clay High School. Gene married the love of his life Sheri (Griggs) Oxley on November 24, 1984 and moved to California in September 1986. He was a family man first and foremost. He was a huge Notre Dame fan, especially football. He loved jumping in the car and taking day trips and exploring new things. He was a career mortgage consultant, and loved helping people. He was preceded in death by his father Sherwood and brother Ricky Oxley. Surviving in addition to his wife Sheri Oxley are his son Aaron Oxley and significant other Katherine Winn, and their children Noah and Ryder Oxley, and daughter Aubree (Oxley) Serra and her husband Chris Serra; one sister Sandy Dennin, three brothers, Randy and wife Leasa Oxley, Dean Oxley, Gary and wife Sue Oxley.
Gene was a gentle giant and was always available to help people in need. His top priorities were always his faith and his family. A viewing for anyone who would like to pay their respects will be held from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday October 13, 2020. Dear Sheri, Aaron and Kathrine and boys Aubree and Chris:
Gene was always a very special nephew. He was friendly, loving and caring, and we cannot forget mischievious. Unfortunately, many miles were between us since his young teen years, and we didn’t get to see each other much.
However, Jerry and I had a wonderful time, some time ago, touring San Francisco with Gene as our guide. On another trip to California, we had the privilege of meeting the family once again. Those memories will be forever cherished. Thank you all for taking good care of Gene through his illness.
Love, hugs, prayers and peace to you all during this difficult time.
Lovingly, Aunt Lynda and Uncle Jerry

Gene was one of my best friends in middle/ high school. He had a laugh and smile that could light up a room.

  • Jason Ambagis says:

Gene, you were such an amazing example for me growing up. Thank you for always welcoming me into your home with open arms. When I was in the Oxley house I was big buddy jay. I felt important, highly valued and above all loved like a member of the family. I am so grateful for the impact you have had on my life. I find myself now doing things for my children that you did for yours and for me when I was with you. I love you dearly. Rest In Peace until we meet again.

  • Julie Comer Stogsdill says:

  • Misty Rickards says:

I’m so sorry to hear of Gene’s passing. Gene helped me with multiple loans over the years and was always so helpful and attentive. He really was excellent at his job. Over the years I felt like I got to know him on a more personal level and I liked him very much – overall just a really kind and nice person with a sweet smile.
My thoughts and prayers go to his family.
