Francelia “Fran” Hicklin, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away in her sleep on Sunday morning, July 20, 2014, in Sacramento at the age of 96 years.
Born Francelia Hunting Morgan on September 16, 1917, in Springfield, Illinois, she was the eldest of four sisters and three brothers, daughter to Gladys and George Morgan, growing up in Montezuma, Iowa. Francelia played piano and sang interludes for KBOE radio Oskaloosa, Iowa, and was crowned “Miss Montezuma” at the Iowa state fair in 1936.
Residing in Sacramento since 1956, she raised two daughters and two sons. After 30 years of government service, she retired from QL in 1995 as TO Librarian for the F-117 detachment at McClellan AFB.
Preceded in death by parents, Gladys and George, sisters Marilyn, Rheadel, and Miriam, brothers Richard and Edwin, her husbands BJ Rutherford and George T. Hicklin, her son Morgan Wayne, grandson Tracy, and granddaughter Shannon and survived by her youngest brother Marcus Morgan (Charlene) of Aurora, CO; children Cynthia Zapata of Coos Bay, OR, Lynn Rutherford and Alan Hicklin (Margo Marvin) both of Sacramento; and grandchildren Kenny, Terri, Michele, Troy Sr. (Denise), Francelia Marie (Gregory), Nicholas (Courtney); great-grandchildren including Christopher, Jessica, Daniel (Nichole), Kyle (Shanista), Thia, Troy Jr., Brittny, Tayler, and Kaylee; and great-great-grandchildren including Sierra, Isaac, Aileen, Angel, Natalyia, Selena, Anjelica, Evelynnrose, and Little Bear.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of her life on Monday August 4, 10:00 am at East Lawn Mortuary, 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association.
