Obituary

Esperanza Cruz Reyes
Esperanza was born on April 23, 1933 in the Philippines. She was one of nine children born to
Antonio and Consuelo Cruz. She was a scholar who graduated Magna Cum Laude from Manila
Central University College of Pharmacy. She went on to work as a pharmacist for several years.
It was during this time she met the man who would become her husband. They married in 1965
and soon after welcomed their first of two sons. In the 1970’s her husband, a member of the
U.S. Navy was stationed at Mare Island so the family made the move to California. There, she
welcomed her second son.
Esperanza was a loving mother and devoted wife who opened her home to all. She loved large
family gatherings and took great care and pride in knowing that what she cooked would be
loved and looked forward to by everyone and she was regarded as one of the best cooks in the
family. She was a kind, selfless soul who was extremely funny and the consummate spoiler of
all children. Her love of “Fat Babies” is well known. Everyone’s favorite Auntie, she did not
hesitate to help anyone who asked and often offered her help to those afraid to.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years Conrado, sons Frederic, Rad (Leila), and
her four nieces and nephews that she loved and cared for as her own, Edwin, Enrico (Michelle),
Ellen (Eric), Eleanor (Rey). Grandchildren Andreena, Ericson, Jaime, Kaila, Christopher,
Nicholas, Emily, Jayson, Daniel, Sophia, Nathaniel, Mina, Aeva, Danica, Ella, Avelyn, Evyn, and
Domingo.
She will be greatly missed by all who she knew and loved.
