Obituary

Erma Louise Walker Schemenaur, 89, of Sacramento, California, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at the Emeritus at Greenhaven, Sacramento, California. Erma was born to Wuayonetta and Charles F. Walker on August 24, 1925, in Henry County Indiana. She married Dale Schemenaur on November 25, 1942; he predeceased her in July of 1973. Erma and Dal had two sons, Robert Dale (Robbie), Sacramento, CA, and Jerold Wayne (LeAnne), Indianapolis, IN, who both survive. She is also survived by her four grandchildren: Jennifer L. Asay (Derek), Basking Ridge, NJ, Brian W. Schemenaur (Stephanie), Indianapolis, IN, Catherine Ann Burchard and Suzette Marie Plumb, San Antonio, TX, as well as her ten great-grandchildren: Regan L., Brett L., and Elise L. Asay, Basking Ridge, NJ, Jared R. and Olivia R. Schemenaur, Indianapolis, IN, Ann Louise, Kevin Mitchel, and Rhiannon Marie Plumb, San Antonio, TX, and Courtney and Shayna Bonanni, San Antonio, Texas, and great-great-grandson Zander Ryan, San Antonio, TX. She is also survived by brothers, Martin L. Walker (Flo), Sacramento, CA, and Arthur R. Walker (Lois), Crossville, TN. Her faithful feline companion, Yuki, survives as well.
She was very active in the Order of Eastern Star and Masonic work, having served as Worthy Matron twice in the Martha Chapter, Martinsville, IN, and she progressed through officer’s line and serving as Worthy Matron in the Lauralane/Harmony Chapter, Sacramento, CA. After living in Indiana her entire life, she moved to Sacramento, CA, in 1978 where her brother Martin resided. During her tenure in California, she was employed by the State of California, Employment Development Department. She retired from State service in her late 70’s.
Erma loved traveling, having been all over the world. She enjoyed crocheting, ceramics, playing Mahjong, and socializing with her friends from her work and her community. Her family was her greatest joy, and she loved spending time with them whenever possible. Her presence will be greatly missed not only by her family but by her former co-workers and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor at Capital Estates Meeting Room on December 12, 2014 at 3pm. Interment will be at a later date in Portland, IN. The family invites friends and neighbors to attend the Celebration to share memories of Erma. In lieu of flowers, Erma requested that donations be made in her memory to The American Cancer Society or Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, Sacramento, CA.
