Passed away June 20, 2014 in Gold River, CA . He was born July 4, 1924 in Sacramento, CA. , son of Emmott W. Sutcliffe, Jr. and Sarah Catherine Sutcliffe. He graduated from McClatchy High School in June 1943. He served in the Army at the end of World War II. After the war he worked for the Army Corp. of Engineers. He attended Sacramento Jr. College and graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering. He was licensed in both CA and NV as a Professional Civil Engineer. He worked several years for a private engineering company before opening his own private civil engineering firm. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church having served in the past on the Board of Deacons and Board of Trustees. He was Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 226 at Orville Wright School for several years and then served as Adult Advisor for an Explorer Scout Aviation Post. He had a life long love of flying small planes and received his private pilots license while a senior in high school. He married Mary Elizabeth Marriner (Betty) August 8, 1948. He is survived by his wife Betty, daughter Cynthia Sutcliffe (Tim) of McKinleyville, son Dr. David Sutcliffe (Liz) of Needham, MA .,granddaughters Sarah Schulz of Arcata, CA, Lindsay and Jillian Sutcliffe of Needham MA., step-granddaughters Dr. Kathryn Theiss of Salem, Oregon and Dr. Susan Theiss of Brisbane, Australia, great grandson Jayce Emmott Schulz of Arcata, CA., sister Mary Kay Bowser of Antelope, CA and niece Linda Ciaramella of Incline, NV., great nephew Derek Allenby of San Francisco, great niece Devon Mindt of Clarksville, TN. At his request there will be no funeral service. A private interment will take place at East Lawn Memorial Park. Any remembrances can be sent to the Leukemia Society or Charity of your choice.
