Obituary

Emma Floresca was born on 6/18/20, the 9th of 10 children. She and Prudencio Floresca were married in 1938 and had 8 children, 5 boys and 3 girls. She was widowed at the age of 58. She has 6 surviving children, 4 boys and 2 girls. Emma came from a family of tailors. Her parents were both tailors, as were all of her siblings, including the men. Even while going to school and college, they sewed and sold ready-made clothing in the public market in Baguio City, Philippines. Emma was a teacher for a while, but quit her job when she became a mother. While raising 8 children she worked as a civil servant, later moved on to part-time jobs such as preparing annual income tax returns for many small businesses in town. But she never gave up her earlier passion of making dresses. Even after her 90th birthday she was still designing and sewing dresses for all occasions. She was also active in church activities and in social work. For a long time, she was president of the Catholic Women’s League in our town. She came to the United States in 1985 after being petitioned by her daughter, Erna. While in the U.S., she took care of many of her first-generation US born grandchildren. Her love for her native town of Naguilian continued to fashion her dreams and she regularly visited Naguilian in order to relive those unforgettable moments with her relatives and friends. Her final visit to Naguilian was in 2012 to attend a global family reunion, but the trip caused a considerable toll on her health. Although she yearned to visit Naguilian one more time, she was no longer able to do so. All her children took turns to take care of her until the very last moments of her life. She lived a full and happy life, always ready to offer a sympathetic ear and a heart-warming smile to her family and friends.
