Elma Arlene Conner, a native and lifelong resident of Wilton, CA, died March 31, 2021. She was 98.
Elma was born on June 12, 1922 on Dillard Road in Wilton to George and Leatha Stout. She grew up in Wilton, attending Dillard School and graduating from Elk Grove High School in 1940. Dillard school was named after her grandmother and grandfather, Emma and C.W. Dillard.
In 1939, while working at her parent’s store in Wilton, Donald Conner began courting Elma in earnest, and the two were married on August 3, 1940. They were married for nearly 70 years before his passing in 2010.
Elma was a past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Elk Grove. She was also a member of the Thursday Club which was established by her mother and grandmother over 60 years ago. Elma was a very involved member of the Wilton History Group and she made many donations to them over the years.
Mr. and Mrs. Conner enjoyed cruises, especially to Alaska and Hawaii. They also took many trips in their RV. Elma drove the motor home until she was 84 years old. They also loved music and dancing. Elma was a member of the theatrical group, The Clay Pipers, out of San Francisco. She performed with them in Dry Town, CA.
Elma was a beautiful lady with a gorgeous smile. She was very witty and had a way of making people laugh. Elma was always there for her family and she enjoyed spending time with them so much. She was extremely proud of all of them.
Elma was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Conner, her sisters, June Lang and Pat Rood, and her daughters, Carolyn and Charlene Conner.
She is survived by her children, Sharon Eaton of Ukiah, Dr. Gary Conner and wife Susan of Elk Grove, and Steve Conner and wife Mary of Wilton; eight grandchildren: Donald Schmidt, Lauri Monette, Sara Hogan, Kenny Eaton, Michael Eaton, Kristin Conner, Steven Conner, and Luke Conner; 19 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
