Born on May 20, 1919, in Youngsville, N.M., Eliseo went to be with the Lord on Dec. 6, 2008. He was preceded in death by his father Donaciano, mother Rosabell Trujillo and stepmother Rebecca M. Ortiz, brothers Joe R. and Donaciano Jr., sisters Mary Ford and Rose Greatarex. He leaves behind a loving wife of 63 years, Mary C. Valdez. Survived by his two brothers Max and Joe, three sisters Angelica Salas, Orlinda Lopez and Dora Cisneros. Eliseo leaves behind ten sons Eligio (Esther M.), Donacino (Carmen V.), Rugelio, Claudio, Louis, James (Grace S.) Joseph, Julian, Robert and George, and four daughters Mary Asher, Rosabell Valdez, Dolores Cook (Bill), and Gloria (Steve) Bushong, 33 very supporting grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
He was a WWII veteran who served in the European African Middle Eastern Theater, a member of the 29th Infantry Division, Company F, 116th Infantry during the Omaha invasion to free France, he was awarded the Silver Star, Purple Heart and numerous campaign medals/ribbons. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 85, and Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Fifty-nine years ago, Eliseo moved to Sacramento, where he worked and retired from the Sacramento Army Depot. Eliseo loved his large family, never a dull moment. He inspired us all though his intense and tenacious will and positive attitude. He always put others first and himself second. He always greeted every one with a smile on his face. His profound spirit and strong religious beliefs kept him truly faithful to his loving wife and family. He will be sorely missed but is now without pain and is resting peacefully with the lord.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend his viewing and rosary, on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at Andrews and Greilich Mortuary, 3939 Fruitridge Rd., Sacramento, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., with the rosary starting at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, Dec. 12, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anne’s Church in South Sacramento followed by interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
