Elba T. Sandin, age 98, resident of Citrus Heights since 1975, passed peacefully cradled in the arms of her son on January 28, 2013. May our Lord take her into His fold and keep her close to His bosom.
Elba and her children were born in Puerto Rico. Her husband’s military career enabled the family to travel and live in Kansas, Japan, Georgia, Arizona, Pennsylvania and Puerto Rico. A multi-talented person, she graced us all with her presence throughout her lifetime. Her keen sense of humor and sharp wit were memorable. Wherever Elba lived, she took art classes from local notable artists, becoming an accomplished and prolific artist herself. Elba also enjoyed family get- togethers ,traveling, crafting, sewing, and quilting for her family, and also by delighting them with her mastery on the piano, especially after Sunday religious services.
She worshipped at St. Mel’s Catholic Church in Fair Oaks, Holy Family Catholic Church in Citrus Heights and Divine Savior Catholic Church in Orangevale, California.
Elba was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, Col. (USA, Ret.) Ramon A. Sandin, her infant son Edgar, her siblings, and her cousins. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her immediate and loving family and their respective spouses: Son, Ramon A. Sandin Jr. (and spouse Francesca) of Citrus Heights, CA and Lima, Peru, daughters Elba Tompkins (and spouse Mike) of Citrus Heights, CA, Lisbeth Williams (and spouse Jon) of Ramey, Pennsylvania, and Fran Sandin-Loro (and spouse Steve) of Humacao, Puerto Rico. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren: Joe, Erik, Yvonne, Michelle, Debbie, Jon, Vanessa, Marisol, Ramon III (Guy), and Diana. She also is survived by her 12 great-grandchildren: Nathan, Grant, Kent, Clayton, Gwendalyn, Noel, Ian, Erik, Guy, Trent, Aidan, and Evalyn, in addition to her beloved nephews Guillermo Torres (and spouse Marta) and Luis Torres, of San Juan, Puerto Rico, the sons of her brother, Guillermo, who have always been there for her.
Elba will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, creativity, keen mind, and fabulous sense of humor. Her passing has left a huge void in the lives of all who loved her. May our Lord grant her eternal rest.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday February 4, 2013 at Divine Savior Catholic Church, 9079 Greenback Lane in Orangevale, California. The services will begin at 10:00am with a Rosary followed immediately by the Funeral Mass. Upon completion, attendees are invited to assemble in the Reception Hall at the Church for a short gathering prior to traveling to East Lawn Sierra Hills Memorial Park, 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento, CA for the entombment. Attendees are welcome to participate in all aspects of the programmed ceremony.
