May 25, 1946 - Mar 5, 2020
Our hearts are broken at the loss of our beautiful Elaine (Moustakas) Mackis who passed from this life March 5, 2020 into the arms of our loving Lord. She leaves behind the people she adored most in this world – her husband, George; son, Andy; daughter-in-law, Summer; and grandchildren: Helena, Georgio, Penelope, Valentina and Gianni. While the loss of our beloved Elaine is unthinkable, we take comfort in remembering her huge heart, unparalleled kindness and radiant smile. She led an amazing and inspiring life, and we all feel blessed to have been part of it.
Born May 25, 1946 in Manhattan, NY, Elaine moved to Sacramento in 1958 with her parents, Demetrious and Andromache (May), and her brother, John (they welcomed baby sister, Sophia soon after). She was strikingly gorgeous and possessed an angelic soprano voice, deeply impressing everyone who heard her sing. She joined the choir at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church as a teenager and remained with it for over 57 years, going on to perform as a soloist for countless weddings, concerts and Divine Liturgies. It was through this choir that she met her future husband, George as a teenager and the two have been inseparable ever since, celebrating 48 years of marriage at the time of her passing.
Family was everything to Elaine and she cherished her time spent with her son, Andy, who was her pride and joy, as well as her beloved daughter-in-law, Summer and her five treasured grandchildren. For the past 16 years, Elaine’s life has revolved around her grandkids whom she loved with everything inside her. She spent countless hours babysitting, attending sporting events, shopping with them, teaching them to crochet and knit, making clothes and costumes for their every performance and whim, even making slime with them! – and she loved every minute of it. Elaine was truly a true hands-on YiaYia – her grandchildren were her life – and she left them all with cherished memories that will live on in their hearts and minds (and on Andy’s countless home movies!) forever.
Elaine worked for the State Controller’s Office for 45 years where she made many friendships that lasted throughout her life. She enjoyed traveling and spent countless weekends camping, waterskiing, and boating with George and Andy over the years. She also took many memorable trips to Greece, Washington DC, Atlanta, Connecticut, Manhattan (where she visited her childhood home on 56th Street), Lake Tahoe and Santa Cruz. A lifelong fan of The Young And The Restless, Elaine visited the set a few years back and left a lasting impression, inspiring many members of the cast to send encouraging videos to her throughout her illness.
In addition to immediate family, Elaine is survived by many in-laws, nieces and nephews, all of whom miss her tremendously and whom she loved very much.
