Dr. Anh T. Phan

Dr. Anh Thanh Phan, 83, of Sacramento, passed away at his home on the morning of Saturday, January 27, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born to Huan Phan and Le Thi Mui on August 10, 1934 in Hai Duong, Vietnam, Dr. Phan was the eldest son amongst thirteen children. With the incursion of Communist forces in 1954, his family fled North Vietnam for Saigon, South Vietnam. Known for his ebullient spirit, joyful laugh and quick wit, Dr. Phan, fluent in three languages, studied to earn his medical degree at both Ross University in Dominica and Spartan University in St. Lucia, from where it was conferred.
He and Thanh (Teresa) Phan were married in 1976 in Columbia, Missouri, and settled in Orange County, California, close to Little Saigon, where they raised two children: daughter, Aimee, and son, Andrew. A devout Catholic, devoted father and loving husband, Dr. Phan worked for many years as a medical interpreter at the University of California-Irvine.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa Phan; children, Aimee Phan (Matt Shears) and Andrew Phan (Hannah Phan); grandchildren, Amelie and Isaiah Shears, and Alden and Claire Phan; step-mother, Chin Nguyen; sisters Hanh Phan (Chuan Vu) and son; Hoanh Phan (Tinh Pham) and two sons; Doanh Phan (Ruc Tran) and son; Thanh Phan (Huy Vu) and son; Binh Phan (Jose Gonzalez); Khoa Phan (Trang Le) and son; and Khoi Phan (An Tran) and sons. He is preceded in death by his parents, Huan Phan and Le Thi Mui, a brother, Hien Phan, and sisters Han Phan (Cao Do) and Trieu Phan (La Tran) and son.
MEMORIAL SERVICE TIMES AND INFO
Visitation hours at East Lawn Memorial Chapel will be held at 4-7pm on Friday, February 9. Chuan Vu will lead a rosary at 6pm.
On Saturday, February 10, there will be a mass at St. Mary’s Parish at 11am and a burial ceremony at East Lawn Memorial Cemetery in the Heritage Garden at 12:45pm.
