Obituary

Dorothy was born on February 3, 1923, she was an energetic child who dreamed of being a ballet dancer. While pursuing that dream, she was persuaded by a handsome pilot, George Rivers to become his wife. During WWII, they settled in Sacramento and raised two children, Duane and Suzanne. As the owner of George’s dress shop, she became known for her elegance and style. As a ballet enthusiast, she supported and served as President of the Sacramento Ballet Guild. Later she was the first woman to be honored by the National Council for Small Business Management Development, as Outstanding Small Business Person of 1975 for her stewardship of Rainbow Fastener’s Inc. other honors followed. She worked for the community as a member and President of the Sacramento Soroptimist and as a chairman of the YMCA. All the while her family grew to include a daughter-in-law, Kathy, a granddaughter, Rachel and three great grandchildren, Faith, Genna and Mckenzie.
