Doris Jeanette Dennis was born on July 26, 1926, in Chunchula, Alabama to Milton O. and Hannah Williams. Doris transitioned to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ peacefully on June 8, 2019, at her home in Sacramento, California surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Wilmer Dennis, her parents Milton O. and Hannah Williams and six siblings: Ruth, Nellie, Brunetta, John, Forrest and Sally.
She is survived by one sister, Clemetine Shepard, Chunchula, Alabama, Milton Williams (Louise), of Mobile, Alabama. Two sister-in-laws, Anniebell Young (Willie) and Pamela Dennis of McIntosh, Alabama. A host of nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends.
She met and married the love of her life, Wilmer Dennis, in 1949. Doris and Wilmer resided in Mobile, Alabama for more than thirty years before a job transfer to McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, California in 1969. After raising her children to reach high school age, Doris decided to use her talents working in the capacity as a Licensed Vocational Nurse at Laurel Hills Center for children with mental disorders. Serving many years in this capacity and rearing her children, she and Wilmer decided to care for their grandchildren and become foster parents. Doris and Wilmer did not stop there, they continued their venture by becoming entrepreneurs and real estate investors. They built and successfully maintained Dennis Barbeque and Mini Mart for 18 years.
She was a dedicated member at New Testament Baptist Church for many years. Upon retirement from the restaurant business, Wilmer and Doris built their dream home in McIntosh, Alabama in 2005. There she became a faithful member at Union Baptist Church, in McIntosh, Alabama, under the leadership of Pastor Charles Shipman, where she looked forward to bible study, Sunday worship and helping in the church wherever she could assist. She was an incredible woman of God, full of passion and love.
With her unconditional love, she leaves to cherish her memory, eight children, five sons: Willie (Debbie), Ronnie (Renee), Richard (Crystal), Errick (Yolanda) and Jerry Dennis; three daughters, Paulette Dennis, Cathy Dennis-Cummings (Billy) and Cynthia Norse (Eddie Jr.) She will be sadly missed by her Goddaughter, Rolina Brown.
