Obituary

Dennis “Denny” Smith, age 66 of Elk Grove, California passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2017. He was born March 9, 1950 in San Francisco. He graduated from UC Davis where he majored in History, and more importantly met his wife, Diane. He worked for the State of California Department of Health Services, Employee Development Department, and retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs as a Section Chief in the Information Services Division in 2011. He also taught Introduction to Computers in the evenings at Cosumnes River College. He worked hard to support his family, but will be better remembered for being kind and generous, as well as for his quick-witted sense of humor and gregarious nature. He loved baseball (Go Giants!), his dogs, hiking, music, beer and pizza, and the simple things in life. During his retirement he helped daily at his son’s restaurant, Old Town Pizza and Tap House in Elk Grove, where he was a staple and became a second father and good friend to many. He will especially be remembered for the love he had for his family including his wife Diane, of 42 years, his three children Kristy, David, and Jennifer, and daughter-in-law Jamie, and son-in-law, Mike.

His public celebration of life will be Thursday, March 16th at 11:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church followed by a reception at Old Town Pizza.
