Cynthia Covel-Kroeck

Jul 2, 1957 - Feb 7, 2019

Cynthia “Cyndi” passed away on February 7, 2019. She is survived by her husband Reimund Kroeck, daughter Tessa, son Justin, brothers Gregory and Jonathan, sister-in-law Karin, her mother Janice and her beloved dogs, Sweetie and Angel. Cyndi’s father, Leonard, a man she adored, preceded her in death.
Cyndi was born on July 2, 1957 in Columbus, Ohio. She moved with her family to California and attended school in Riverside, CA. In high school, Cyndi became life-long friends with Wendy Brown. The same happened when she met Leslie Sackett at Scripps College in Claremont, California.
In 1985 she married Riemund Kroeck in Riverside, CA. Cyndi and Reimund initially raised their own family in Colorado Springs, before relocating to the Sacramento area to be closer to Cyndi’s parents.
Cyndi had an independent streak from an early age and took on the work world early in her teens. Some of her favorite early assignments were at Baskin Robbins, Federal Land Bank, Mission Bank, and her father’s carpet stores and restaurants. Most recently, she enjoyed 24 years helping with education projects at the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) where she was an Executive Assistant.
Largely, Cyndi lived a life of service to others. As a young girl she was active in Camp Fire Girls and, as a teenager, she volunteered as a Candy Striper at Riverside General Hospital. When someone in the family or community needed help, she was there, and often first. This was notable with the aid she gave her mom, a hefty devotion in addition to her professional work at SCOE. She raised two children that she was fiercely devoted to, even when they didn’t see things eye-to-eye. She enjoyed crafts, family trips to find the perfect Christmas tree, shopping for just the right gifts, and spending time with her dogs.
The family would like to sincerely thank friends and neighbors Bob and Sande, Arlinda and Larry, Maria and Gavino, Stephanie, and Cyndi’s friends and colleagues at SCOE, for their care, support and well wishes.
A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, March 23rd, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at East Lawn Elk Grove Mortuary, 9189 E. Stockton Blvd., Elk Grove, CA 95624 with Pastor Thomas Norvell officiating.
In lieu of flowers, and in in keeping with Cyndi’s love of dogs (especially senior dogs), the family suggests a donation in Cyndi’s memory be made to the Sacramento SPCA, 6201 Florin Perkins Road, Sacramento, CA 95828.

To Jan Covel and family, I am saddened to learn of Cindy’s passing. She was a kind, loving person. I know she brought her mother, Jan, to many of our Soroptimist meetings and we all enjoyed getting to know her. My love is with you all and know she will always be in your heart. Toni Raney

  • Kim Holm says:

I worked with Cyndi for over 20 years. In those years, I grew to love and appreciate her kindness and gentle demeanor. She took care of others with an effortless passion, and she will be sorely missed here at SCOE. Without question, every time I see a daffodil, or spring flower, I will think of my friend. I am sad that I will miss her celebration of life, but will think of her fondly today and always. SHE was a bright and shining star, her smile a welcome port in any storm.
My thoughts and prayers are with her family, sweet Mother Janice. Rest assured, she was greeted with welcome arms in Heaven.
