Claudio Benito Monge

Sep 26, 1959 - Nov 27, 2018

Claudio was born September 26, 1959 in Los Angeles, California to Dora and Claudio Monge. He excelled in academics and baseball. He loved music and played the saxophone in school. He graduated from Bassett High School with honors which gained him a full scholarship to Cal Poly Pomona to study Architecture. While attending college he decided to serve his country enlisting in the Air Force where he became an air-traffic controller. Claudio had an adventurous spirit which he experienced through various ways but his favorite was in his travels. He always had a generous heart especially for his family. He was a devoted son, brother, husband and step father. Claudio’s pride and joy was his wife Anne, his step children: Matilda, Ernest, Kate, and Tess.
They met playing World of Warcraft and he flew across the world to be with her and start a new life that included 4 grown children. As Matilda said,
β€œHe had the biggest heart in the world. He loved my mum and bragged about all of us like we were his own. We were his Australian family. He was an amazing cook, a damn fine 500 partner, the best hugger and he always had a friendly ear and lots of good advice. My family has lost its soft cuddly centre. I hope wherever he is he knows that he was loved. So so much.”

  • Anne Ridgway says:

Please all help us remember him by sharing something. For me what stands out is his love of cooking. He used to follow his mum around asking how to cook things. He adored her and she was a great cook. We would wake up in the morning and discuss what we would have for dinner. He taught himself to make a bunch of really great meals. You might remember his ribs, hotwings, chili, stir fries and spaghetti and that doesn’t begin to cover all of them.

I’ve never met anyone who so quickly opened his heart and home. Claudio was made up of 100% kindness and good intentions. We have lost the brightest of stars.

  • He loved a chat, to cook and eat and drink good rum. What I will always remember is how he cherished and loved my sister Anne. Thinking of you. Love Verity

  • I’m so grateful that you came into our lives Claudio. I wish we had more time but I’m so glad I got to know you. That I got to be around your kindness, generosity, positivity and warmth. That I got to have your bear hugs. That I got to taste your amazing cooking. That I got to witness your deep love of my mum. You’ve made a big impact on my life. Thank you x
