Christine Iva Twilling was born on July 31, 1921 in Ashland, OK, the third child to Jarome and Bertha Rowe. She passed away peacefully at Eskaton Manzanita in Carmichael, CA on September 12, 2014, at the age of 93 years. Chris was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Henry “Bud” Twilling Jr. She was also preceded by her parents, her siblings, Lucille Ida Houston of Hanford and Alvin G. Rowe of Sacramento, and a grandchild, Bryan Twilling.
Christine moved with her family to California during the Dust Bowl and Great Depression. The family moved to Hollister and finally settled in Hanford, where she graduated from Hanford High. During the early years of World War II, she worked with the USO. She met and married her husband, Bud, when he was stationed as a Military Policeman at Camp White, Oregon. Christine moved with her husband to Sacramento after the War and they were the co-owners of Twilling’s Union 76 Service in Sacramento. Bud and Chris lived for 53 years on El Camino Avenue where she enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren, sewing, gardening, and quilting. Traveling was a rare treat, but they camped and fished, especially at Wrights Lake. For the past three years she resided in Eskaton Manzanita where she received excellent care.
Chris leaves behind six children: Carol Glover (Ron), Denise Theders (Jeff), Henry “Bud” Twilling, III (Teka), Jo Anne Breese (Bus), John Twilling (Sigrid), and Linda Twilling (Basil Boutris). She leaves 14 grandchildren: Trudi, Stacey and Jennifer Breese; Adam and Sara Glover; Henry Twilling IV, Charles, David and Kara Lee Twilling; Despina and Stavros Boutris; and Gayle, John Jr., and Elizabeth Theders. She also leaves 17 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.
