Beverly Mae Jarvis

Feb 12, 1934 - Feb 5, 2017

Beverly “Bev” Mae Jarvis passed on February 5, 2017 in Sacramento, CA. She was 82 years old.

Bev was born on February 12, 1934 in Hollywood, CA to her parents, Clifford and Anna Ruth Williams; she was the second of four children. She married Joe Dean Jarvis on December 18, 1949. They were married for nearly 49 years until his passing in May 1998. Together, they raised two children: Brenda Lee and Bradley Dean.

The Jarvises primarily lived in the Stockton, CA area where Joe was stationed with the California National Guard. In 1970, they moved to Elk Grove, CA due to Joe’s transfer to Mather Air Force Base. While continuing to work full time, they also built and operated a small cattle ranch. The ranch became the hub of much family activity, which Bev and Joe were immensely proud of.

Bev was a housewife until 1960 when she entered the workforce as a bookkeeper. She worked in the accounting field for 25 years until her retirement from Sacramento County’s Public Works Department in 1985.

In their retirement years, Bev and Joe enjoyed traveling in their RV, playing golf and fishing together. They bought a small place on the Chetco River in Brookings, OR where they would travel to often. Although modest about her artistic abilities, Bev was an excellent quilter, oil painter and crocheter. She took great pleasure in making special keepsakes for family and friends.

Bev was an active member at GodWorks Christian Fellowship in Elk Grove. Her church community was a source of joy and fulfillment. Bev’s heart was full of compassion and wanted to do for others, and she always had a loving attitude for those around her.

Bev is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Eric Vargas of Sacramento, CA; her son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Kathy Jarvis of Fresno, CA; her five grandchildren, Michelle Dickson (Rich), Chris Vargas (William Roach), Sondra Sulli, Corey Jarvis and Aaron Jarvis; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Elmo Williams of Sacramento, CA. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Bev is preceded in death by her husband, Joe; her brothers, Robert Williams and Richard Williams; her sister, Patricia Carlisle; her grandson, Trever Jarvis.

A celebration of life service will take place on Friday, February 24, 2017 at 10:00am at East Lawn Memorial in Elk Grove. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to GodWorks Christian Fellowship with the notation “Benevolent” (P.O. Box 160, Elk Grove, CA 95759).
