Betty Jule Ley
Nov 17, 1927 - Nov 21, 2015
Betty Jule Ley, 88, of Sacramento, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2015 with her loving family by her side. She was born on November 17, 1927 in Butte Montana to Harold and Belle Kalin. She moved to Greeley, Colorado at the age of 14 and it was there that she met and married her loving husband of 43 years, Floyd Ley, who preceded her in death in 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and three sisters, Doris Moore, Margaret Erlich, and Alice Bier. She is survived by her son and daughter and their spouses, Ronald and Marsha Ley of Elk Grove, CA, and Joyce (Ley) and Marvin Moore of Sacramento, CA. Betty was blessed with five beautiful grandchildren, Matthew Moore, Stephanie (Moore) Simontacchi, Natalie Ley, MaryKathrine Ley, and Elizabeth Ley, along with one great grandchild. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Betty and Floyd married and moved to Sacramento after World War II. After raising two children, Betty worked in the bakery business most notably Adolph’s and Cramer’s Bakeries for 26 years. She was a member of the Bakers and Confectionery Union. Betty loved to travel, bake, embroider and crochet. Her last memorable road trip was to her birthplace, Butte, Montana for her 85th birthday with her son, daughter and granddaughter, Natalie. Amazingly, she was able to recall names of streets she lived on and gave us a guided tour of the city with memories of swimming in ponds containing copper water from the mines and ice skating and jumping barrels on them when they froze in the winter. She always talked about her favorite charity the Salvation Army, which she credits with helping to provide for her family after her dad died. She enjoyed weekend excursions with friends and family exploring the sites of California and summer family vacations. She loved her church and was an active member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Sacramento, CA for over 50 years until her health started to decline.
