GERKEN, Bert G.
Passed away November 10, 2011 in Spokane, WA. He was born on June 12, 1921 in Stockton, CA. He was the beloved husband for 69 years of Kathryn L. Gerken (Jackson). Loving father of Michael K. Gerken, Nine Mile Falls, WA., Grandfather of John L. Gerken, Veradale, WA., and Daniel L. Gerken, Post Falls, ID. Great-grandfather of three.
Captain Gerken was a Marine Corsair Fighter-Bomber Pilot, serving in WWII and Korea. He flew 153 missions and received the Distinguished Flying Cross and six air medals.
He was a life member of the VFW Post #3322, West Point, CA; the Marine Aviation Assn.; The Marine Mustang Assn., The Marine Enlisted Pilots Assn., and the Stockton Chapter of the WWII Warbirds. He was also inducted into the Stockton Athletic Hall of Fame.
He was a member of the Volcano Masonic Lodge #56, and the Stockton Scottish Rite Bodies.
At his request, there will be no funeral service. Interment will be private at the East Lawn Mausoleum on Folsom Blvd., Sacramento, CA. Those who wish, may send donations to the Stockton Scottish Rite Almoner’s Fund, 33 W. Alpine Ave., Stockton, CA 95204, or to your local Cancer Society.
