 Bernice Lillian Rheingans

Born January 11, 1925 in Portland, Oregon and was delivered unto the Lord on March 17, 2014 at the age of 89. Survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Elton, her son Ricky (Pam), brother Everett Headington (LaVelle), grandchild, Rachel Frost, 3 great grandsons and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Marie and Laverna.

She graduated from Grant Union High School in 1942 and went directly to work for the Federal Government at Mather AF Base as a stenographer. It was at Mather she met her future husband, Elton.

After leaving Mather she held a number of jobs both in industry and government. She took time off to raise her son, then returned to work for the State of California for a few more years.

Bernice was a member of Faith Lutheran Church for over 50 years. She loved animals, especially her dogs and cats. She enjoyed traveling and took many trips with her husband and friends visiting Europe, China, Australia, New Zealand and various islands. In retirement she and her husband enjoyed many RV trips to various points of interest.

Her hobbies included photography, sewing, machine knitting and machine embroidering. She loved flowers and plants and was a “Green Thumb” gardener.

She was little, 5’tall and about 100 lbs, yet she was feisty, strong-willed and could hold her own in almost any situation.

She will be remembered for being a loving wife and mother, her love of family and being a great homemaker. She will be missed by her many friends, relations and neighbors.

The family wishes to thank Vitas Hospice Service personnel and Senior Home Care Services personnel for their kind care and attention during Bernice’s last illness.

A visitation viewing will be held March 25 from 4pm to 8pm at East Lawn, 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento. Internment will be at Odd Follows Lawn, 2720 Riverside Blvd, Sacramento with graveside service to be held March 26 at 1pm.
