Barbara Baker Ashton (Cox)
September 28, 1943 to August 11, 2011
After a long and courageous battle with lupus and other lung complications, Barbara was called home to be with the Lord. Beloved Wife, loving Mother, devoted Grandma “Maka”, wonderful Daughter, and dedicated Friend. Survived by her husband of nearly 40 years, Tom, children Jeffrey Warren (Mike), Robert Ashton (Wendy) and Christina Edwards (Dale), grandchildren Sarah and Trinidy, mother Roberta Goar, cousins and “adopted” children and grandchildren. Preceded in death by her father, Robert Cox, her sister-in-law, JoAnn Gear and her brother-in-law, Kelly Kevan.
Barbara was an only child, born in Yuba City and lived most of her life in Sacramento, being part of the first graduating class of Encina High School. Throughout her life she showed love, compassion and generosity to everyone that she met. She was always willing to listen and help wherever and whenever needed, including volunteering Bingo for El Camino High School for 7 years and serving the Lord through Eastern Star. She was a wonderful cook, making delicious meals from scratch. She enjoyed spending time with family, going to Sacramento Kings games and Friday shopping with her “girls”.
Twenty years ago we nearly lost Barbara to complications from heart surgery. Everyday since then has been a gift from God and we cherish every birthday, wedding, holiday, birth and moment that she was there. She will be deeply missed by all.
Friends and Family are welcome to celebrate Barbara’s life at a memorial service on August 19, 2011 at 2:00 at East Lawn Mortuary, 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento. The memorial will be officiated by Pastor Laurie Jennings.
