May 4, 1932 - Dec 2, 2013
Audelia Ortega, also known to some as Mary, passed away on December 2, 2013 at the age of 81.
She was born in Durango, Mexico in a small town called Sandias and grew up in the country with her family. She moved to the United States when she was a teenager. As a young adult, she began working for Bercut-Richards Cannery and stayed with them for many years until her retirement. To earn extra income she also worked at Sutter Memorial hospital making beds as well as selling her homemade tamales. (Yum!) She married Manuel Ortega in 1956 and over the years had three beautiful children.
Audelia always had a green thumb, and she always kept her yard and flowers looking prim and beautiful. She liked growing hydrangeas and roses. She also liked to knit. She made blankets, jackets, scarves, and other items. She also loved going to casinos and nearly always won. She was always very lucky. Above all, she loved her family very much and always made time to spend with them.
Audelia is survived by one sibling, Otilia Escobedo; two children, Joaquin Ortega and Delia Darden; and seven grandchildren, Angela, Gabrielle, John, Lauren, Amy, Ryan, and Garret.
A viewing will be held Thursday, December 12th at East Lawn (Andrews & Greilich) Mortuary on Fruitridge Rd at 4 pm, followed by the rosary, which will be held at 6pm. The funeral will take place Friday, December 13th at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church at 10 am.
She was a courageous and passionate person all of her life. She will forever be remembered by those that she was close to. Until we see you in Heaven, know that we love you and that you will be dearly missed.
