Armando John 'Andy' Annigoni
Oct 7, 1915 - Feb 24, 2013
ANNIGONI, Armando John (Andy)
Born October 7, 1915 and passed away February 24, 2013 at Sutter Memorial Hospital surrounded by family and friends. He is survived by his children; Rick, Lynn Annigoni Lively, and Thomas, seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
His parents Menotti and Margherita Annigoni immigrated to San Francisco from northern Italy in the early 1900’s.
Andy was born in San Francisco, attended local grammar school, and graduated from Galileo High School in 1933. In addition to helping his parents operate their boarding home for immigrants, he helped with the family restaurant, wine making, bar tending and knife sharpening business. He also worked for Reliance Trailer in the Bay Area as a welder and truck body builder.
In 1939 he married an Irish woman with fiery red hair named Myrtle Ann Conn. They had 3 children; Richard, Lawrence and Lynn. After living in San Bruno for several years, they moved to his family’s ranch in San Jose. Shortly thereafter, the property was split down the middle to make way for Hwy 101. On one side of the freeway, they had leases for a 20-acre strawberry farm. On the other side, Andy cared for his mother, boarders, children and found time to make more wine. Myrtle died years later in an auto accident.
In July 1958, Andy moved to Sacramento, with the encouragement of a dear friend, Joe Arbini. Andy became the manager of a new business called Sacramento Waste Disposal Company (SAWDCO) located at the old Sacramento incinerator silo. The commercial waste business was started with a pickup truck and history was in the making. Shortly thereafter, SAWDCO started the bin and drop-box business in Sacramento County. It was also during that time period that Andy negotiated a franchise for waste services with West Sacramento.
Andy was a 3rd degree member of the “Tehama Lodge #3 – a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason and Ben Ali Shrine. Additionally, he was a member of the Directors Staff with the Royal Order of the Jesters Court 119. Andy’s other participations included being the 4-time President of the Sacramento Exchange Club; President of the California Refuse Removal Council; President of the National Solid Waste Management Association; Board Director with the CA State Fair, Regional Director for SCA services and a partner in SAWDCO.
Andy met his next and lifelong partner to be, Norma Jane. They were married in 1962. Norma passed way last August. She was survived by her son, Thomas.
Andy and his wife enjoyed being part of Gethsemane Lutheran Church on Arden Way where they sang and served as assistant ministers. Somehow Andy found time to make a CD at age 90 singing favorite songs with his great tenor voice.
There was not much he didn’t like to do until he couldn’t anymore – like golf; he loved to dance and was a graduate of Arthur Murray School of dancing; spoke and sang in fluent Italian. Of course, his favorite artist was Frank Sinatra. Andy was everyone’s friend and his family’s hero.
On March 8th, 3:00 PM at the Dante’s Club (his favorite) we are going to combine the services with a Celebration of his Life. If you are friend and/or business associate and plan to attend, please fax name and number of attendees to 916-313-3241 or Annigoni@Surewest.com.
Please come to celebrate the life of Andy Annigoni.
