“Alphonse” Shepard Sr.

Andrew was born on October 8, 1919 to the proud parents of Willie “Wash” Washington Shepard and Myrtle Roberts Shepard. Andrew was the sixth child of seven.

Andrew served in the United States Navy from 1941-1947 during which time he received four battle stars. Andrew met Clementine Williams and they were married on December 26, 1949. Andrew and Clementine had seven children, raising them in Citronelle, Alabama until July 1969 when Brookley AFB was closed and Andrew and his family moved to North Highlands, California where he continued working at McClellan AFB. Andrew retired from McClellan AFB on December 30, 1981 after 35 years of civil service as a packaging Supervisor.

After retirement, Andrew went on to become a realtor and sold real estate for over 20 years. Andrew accepted Christ at the young age of 12 at Bethlahem Baptist Church in Citronelle, Alabama and as an adult, he was very active in church. He sang in the church choir and loved to sing. He taught Sunday school and was involved in youth activities, while a member of the First Baptist Church of North Highlands. Andrew was a member of the Masonic Temple Lodge #486 in Citronelle, Alabama. Andrew took photography classes, was in a bowling league, and enjoyed watching and attending sporting events. Andrew enjoyed playing pool and teaching his children and grandchildren his techniques.

Andrew was preceded in death by his father, Willie and his mother Myrtle and all of his siblings, Emma, Clarence, Ethel, Geneva, Albert and George.

Andrew was also preceded in death by his oldest child, Andrew Alphonse Shepard Jr., on October 22, 2004.
Andrew leaves to cherish his memory, Clementine Shepard also his sister-in-laws Vivian Shepard and Gladys Shepard. Alphonse also leaves to cherish his memories and life lessons his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Andrew had three great grandchildren, Walter Miller, Avery Andrew Shepard and Jacob Paul Shepard. Andrew leaves a host of nieces, nephews and friends to also cherish his memory.

Andrew will be remembered for his many stories of his life and his family history and will certainly be remembered for his many sayings and life quotes.

He was a wise uncle who always had just the right advice each time I was afforded the opportunity to be in his presence.
