Nellie Calderon died peacefully on Monday, April 15, 2019, at her home in Elk Grove, California. She was surrounded by her family.
She was born Nellie Vera on November 4, 1949 to Manuel and Angie Vera in Fresno, California. She was one of eight children raised in Antioch, California. On August 28, 1966, Nellie married Leo Calderon in Reno, Nevada. Together, they raised four loving daughters, Angela, Lisa, Emily and Natalie.
Nellieâs life was dedicated to caring for others, from her husband and children to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In the early 1980âs, Nellieâs life took a different turn when she began to study the Bible with Jehovahâs Witnesses. She was baptized into the Jehovahâs Witness faith in Fremont, California. This began her over 30 year walk of faith with Jehovah. Nellie joyfully served her congregations in Pittsburg and Elk Grove, California. She made many close and personal friends, and felt her life found true meaning through this walk.
Nellie was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Sam and Bobby Vera. She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Leo Calderon; daughters Angela Dominguez (Marc), Lisa Montoya (Danny), Emily Ayala (Michael), and Natalie Calderon; nine grandchildren, Jessica Dominguez (Ken), Marisa Dominguez (Jason), Daniel Costa (Britney), Mark Mora, Lisa Mora (Ed), Mia Montoya, Vincent Montoya, Michael Ayala, Ayden Ayala; great grandchildren, Destinee, Davina, Davontae, Vicente, Isabella and Ayan; brothers, Andy Vera, Gilbert Vera (Rachel); sisters Rosemary Arroyo (Ray), Jenny Olguin, Elvira Vera and many adoring nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
A service celebrating Nellieâs life will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, April 26th, 2019 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovahâs Witnesses at 9539 Foulks Ranch Drive in Elk Grove, California. Burial will follow at 2:00pm at East Lawn Memorial Park (9189 E. Stockton Boulevard, Elk Grove, California).
