Obituary for Floree Fong Gee

Floree Fong Gee, 58, of Sacramento, CA passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 13, 2018, due to MSA-C (Multiple System Atrophy-Cerebellar). Floree began experiencing symptoms of this rare, incurable, and progressive disease nearly 10 years ago. Floree is survived by her husband, Milt; and sons, Madison and Cameron; her parents, Ronald and Ruby Fong; her sister, Florence Fong; and her brothers, Dana Fong (Grace) and Mike Fong (Vila); along with aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and 6 siblings-in-law. Floree was born on March 17, 1960 in Sacramento, CA. She graduated from Pony Express, John Still, John F Kennedy, and California State University Sacramento. Floree married Milt Gee on April 25, 1987 in Sacramento, CA, and soon after returning to the Sacramento Bee following the birth of their first son, became a stay-at-home Mom who also volunteered in the classroom and on field trips. Floree was devoted to her gym workouts, including aerobics and spinning. While an A's fan growing up, she later became a Giants fan and enjoyed going to Giants' Spring Training. Floree loved to travel to big cities for the food as much as the sights. Music was a big part of her life: studying piano as a child, sharing lyrics of songs in letters to Milt while dating, associating songs to life events, seeing both sons' many recitals and Madison playing violin, and attending Broadway musicals and other performing arts. Floree also enjoyed seeing the Mandarins drum corps due to her very close relationship with her Uncle Yuk Fong, one of the four founders of the Mandarins in 1963. Her last memories of the corps in 2018 were the age-out performance of The Year of the Dragon and the corps' 10th place finish. Floree was most proud of both sons' academic, musical, and creative achievements, and as her disease progressed she was motivated in wanting to see Madison (in 2015) and Cameron (in 2018) graduate from college. The Visitation is Thursday, November 29, 6-8pm at George L Klumpp Chapel of Flowers, 2691 Riverside Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95818. Floree's Celebration of Life is Friday, November 30, 10am, also at George L Klumpp Chapel of Flowers, followed by the Interment at East Lawn Memorial Park, 4300 Folsom Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95819, and a reception at Hong Kong Islander, 5675 Freeport Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95822. In lieu of flowers, donations in Floree's name can be made to the MSA Coalition at https://www.multiplesystematrophy.org/donate-now/ and/or to the Mandarins at https://bfhelxfntv.formstack.com/forms/donation_form
