Eduardo âEddie Boyâ Quizon Hernandez of Elk Grove, California, passed away on Friday, January 31st, 2020, of lung cancer. The eldest son of Pete and Paz Hernandez, who have passed away in 2000 and 2019 respectively, he was the third amongst seven children. With his wife, Maria, they raised four children: John, Juan Paolo, Jayson and Janina.
Ed was born and raised in Manila. He loved to drive, and he learned how to drive at an early age. The first time he drove, he stood upright on the driver side, because he couldnât sit down and reach the pedals. He would also hang out with his older sisters and enjoyed going to disco techs. At the age of 24, he met the love of his life, Maria. They were truly opposites: Ed was a dancer, Maria was not; he came from the city, she came from the province; he was very outgoing and the life of most parties, while she was shy and timid. âOpposites attractâ couldnât be truer of Ed and Maria. Every night, Ed made it a point to make sure he kissed his wife and would never leave her side. They were married and happily together for over 40 years.
Edâs most distinct personality trait was how well he got along with other people. This was most evident during his early birthdays. Ed would invite all of his friends and classmates over to his house without any planning (including telling his parents). He wanted everyone to feel included. When Ed was young, he noticed most of his classmates didnât have shoes, and they would walk home barefoot. Ed was fortunate enough to have shoes, but he would walk barefoot with all his classmates so that they didnât feel impoverished. Ed truly cared about everyone he met, even if it was for only a short amount of time.
As the years went by, Ed enjoyed watching sports and game shows with his family. Some of his favorite songs would be âSomewhere My Loveâ by Ray Conniff, âLove Me Tenderâ by Norah Jones, and âHotel Californiaâ by The Eagles. He cleaned his car religiously and made a point to teach his sons the same thing.
Ed influenced many people in his life. He will forever be loved by his family and friends.
