Amie Molina

Beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt Amie Molina (Matsunami), 69, of Elk Grove, CA born April 8th 1950, passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack while asleep on July 11, 2019. She is survived by her two children, Kristi (Craig) and Damien Matsunami (Kathy), 4 granddaughters, Kaitlyn, Madison, Ally and Sophie, sisters, Barbara (Ronald) Serrano and Joann (Reaser) Phillips. Amie will also be forever remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and dear friends. A native of Sacramento, Amie attended Holy Angels Elementary School, St. Joseph’s High School, was the head cheerleader for Christian Brothers High School and spent her senior year and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School. She then studied at Sacramento City College where she got her cosmetology license and was a member of the volleyball team. She loved being with her family, especially her kids and granddaughters whom she adored with all her heart. Amie was the most selfless, loving, caring, appreciative and humble person you could ever meet. She lived with her daughter Kristi and they were inseparable friends. Amie was the most supportive loving mom and grandma. Many referred to her as “GLAM-MA” due to her glamorous style and ageless quality. Her great niece, Caylie, always said she put the “B” in Bling! Amie designed every dance costume for Kristi and never let her walk out of the house without styled hair and a crisply ironed matching outfit. Amie ensured that Kristi’s dance and gymnastics attire matched from the ribbons and scrunchies in her hair down to the leotard. She was the ultimate dance, gymnastics and cheer mom/glam-ma, spending many years at Byer’s Gymnastics with both Damien and Kristi who were competitive gymnasts. Never missing a practice or competition, Amie was always there for her kids. Her endless support expanded to include the activities of her beloved granddaughters. Amie was one of the hardest working individuals you could ever meet. She was a hairdresser for 50 years starting at Wava’s Beauty Salon in 1969. Working alongside her “brother” best friend and owner of Wava’s, Serena Lum, she bought the business and renamed it Style’s by Amie about 10 years ago. Amie was a real people person, she loved conversing with everyone she met. Her charming spunky personality could make anyone smile. She retired from Bel Air after 15 years alongside many of her dearest friends/co-workers as a bakery clerk. She consistently won awards for her outstanding customer service. A well-rounded and talented crafter, she could beautifully decorate any cake or hairstyle all while looking flawless herself. She constantly stayed in close touch with her family, customers and many friends. She just loved being surrounded by people. Most of her clients at the salon had been with her since she was 19 and became very near and dear to her heart. She also had a group of close friends from grammar school that she still remained tight with for over 60 years, which speaks volumes to the kind of woman Amie was. Amie had a giving spirit and was an active volunteer at all the schools her children attended. She was a cheerleading advisor at Kennedy High school alongside her daughter as the coach. At 64, she proved that you are never too old to follow your dream; in 2014 she proudly joined the Classics, one of the first NBA dance teams for women over 60. Coached by Kristi the senior team enjoyed 5 seasons. Amie was able to form the most unbelievable bond with 18 women that became a sisterhood. Glamorous by nature, she loved performing in front of 17,000 fans at Golden 1. Amie’s passion was music and dancing and it meant the world to her being part of the Classics. Part mermaid, Amie loved the water/ocean and was still actively swimming, working out and dancing; her adventurous spirit never aged. On top of dancing once a week with her sisters, she would walk 4 miles a day on the treadmill jamming to her favorite musician, Pitbull. The memory of her unforgettable radiant smile and ageless spirit continues to warm the hearts of those she knew. She will be greatly missed. The viewing and service will be held at 1pm Tuesday, July 23rd at East Lawn Memorial, 9189 E Stockton Blvd, Elk Grove, CA 95624. The Celebration of Life reception will immediately follow at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 8700 Bradshaw Rd, Elk Grove, CA 95624. We request that everyone honor Amie’s wishes by wearing lots of color to her service especially her favorites pink, yellow and white to celebrate her life. Those who so desire may donations in memory of Amie to her kids in order to help cover funeral expenses.
