L. Keith Hurst was a loving father, husband, and grandfather and great-grand father. He was born in Ogden Utah on December 24, 1926 to Leonard and Flossie Hurst. He passed away peacefully on April 12, 2017 at his home at the age of 90.
He leaves his wife Marilyn, daughters Susan, Cheryl Freeman (Bill), Grandsons William and Gregory, Diane Brown (Rod) grandson Michael and granddaughter Amanda, Dorene Rook (Wes), Kathy Saunders, granddaughters Katlyn, and Julia, Carol Christensen (David) grandson Aaron, granddaughters Katie and Eliza, Linda Jones (Patrick) grandsons Kyle, Dallin and granddaughter, Jenna and Susan Shelton as well as his brothers Gerald (Marilyn) and David Hurst (Marsha).
He is preceded in death by his first wife Amanda Hurst and daughter Laurie and granddaughter Ashton.
He served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War and retired as a Lt. Colonel. He was given many awards and commendations for his service. Keith attended college at Weber State and graduated from Utah State with an Engineering Degree. He worked for over 40 years with the Department of Public Works/Caltrans in San Francisco and later in Sacramento.
Keith met Amanda Ellis at Hill Field AFB, they married and began a family. In 1976, Amanda Hurst passed away. Later, he met Marilyn Shelton, they married and continued to raise their combined families of eight daughters.
Keith was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a Bishop and in many other positions. Keith and Marilyn also served a Church Mission in Kirtland, Ohio and a family history mission in Sacramento.
Keith traveled extensively in the US and around the World. His hobbies included History and Country Music.
Memorial services will be at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Havenhurst Building) 6925 Havenhurst Drive, Sacramento on April 22, 2017 at Noon. Interment will be at Cypress Lawn Colma, Ca.
