Dorothy King Harper died peacefully on Oct. 7 at her home in Eskaton Village, Carmichael. Dorothy was born in 1918 in Los Angeles to Roy and Florence Goodale King. After graduating UCLA in 1940, she attended San Anselmo Theological Seminary, where she met her husband, Harvey Harper. She graduated with an M.A. in Christian Education, Harvey with a B.A in theology. They married in 1944 and together shared over fifty years of pastoral and migrant ministry in Jerome, ID, Bakersfield, Coachella and Rancho Cordova, CA. Dorothy also taught kindergarten for almost twenty years at Peter J. Shields Elementary in Rancho Cordova. After retiring, she volunteered within the local Hmong community, with Literacy Volunteers of America, and continued to be, for as long as she was able, an active member in the Rancho Cordova United Presbyterian and the Northminster Presbyterian Churches. She is pre-deceased by her parents, her sister, Barbara King, and her husband Harvey. She is survived by her loving children, Steve (Jenny), Helen (Sue), and George (Rebecca); grandchildren Christoper, Maren, Wake and Toby; great-grand children Alyssa, Isaiah and Harper; by her Turkish daughters Nadire (Kenji), Kismet (Jeff), Saadet (Mitch) and grandchildren Andrew, Mine and Eimi. A graveside service will be held for family. Memorials can be gifted in her name to Loaves and Fishes or charities of choice. Her family is ever grateful for the loving care she was given at Eskaton Village Care Center.
