Obituary

Tilman D. Lethco passed away peacefully at home July 19, 2015 at the age of 90. He was born April 12, 1925 in Knoxville, Tennessee, the only child of Lillian Lucille Cole and Joseph Jackson McCullough Lethco.

He lived in many areas, settling in San Francisco with his mother. Throughout his life he has worked at just about every job including being a dock worker, dock foreman, soda jerk at a lunch counter, door to door sales, catering service for TWA at San Francisco Airport, and insurance sales with Occidental Life (part of TransAmerica).

Fiercely patriotic, he joined the Army and fought in the Pacific Theater in WWII. As a Forward Observer he was often behind enemy lines. After the War he served in the National Guard, and Army Reserves. He retired as a Colonel with more than 33 years of service.

During his time in the military he met his wife-to-be at a USO dance. In 1949 he married Alfrieta Moyes and settled in San Francisco. They are the parents of four children; Tim (Michele), Kevin (Kathy), Scott (Tammie) and Kathy, eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Til loved the Boy Scouts of America and its ideals. Over his 25 years of volunteer service in the Golden Empire Council, he helped thousands of young men reach the rank of Eagle Scout.

Til loved traveling especially back to Tennessee for Lethco family reunions, to Scout Jamborees, and other scouting events. His most recent travels took him on a cruise to Hawaii with his family.

He carried out his duties to God and his country with honor and dignity. He was an example of service, devotion and dedication. We will miss his quirky humor, his sincere doting on each grandchild and his wonderful stories.

A viewing will be held Sunday evening from 3-6pm at East Lawn Memorial Park, 4300 Folsom Blvd, Sacramento. Service will held Monday July 27, 2015 at 10am at the LDS Church, 3001 Wissemann Drive, Sacramento.
