Obituary

Dorothy Jane Gauthier
Born March 7, 1929. Entered into eternal life March 2, 2015.
Grew up in Tracy, California and attended Tracy High School. She was raised by her grandmother and lived under a strict upbringing. She aspired at a young age for something better. She wanted to be special to all those she met. And she was.
She found her calling at Saint Mary's College of Nursing in San Francisco. She wanted to help others and after graduating she moved to Sacramento.
By the prompting of her friends she was set up on a blind date with a nice young man who would become the love of her life. On April 1, 1951 she was married to Edward Ladrue Gauthier.
She loved the idea of family and they adopted 4 children and welcomed them into their home. The first was Deborah Anne, born in 1952. Cynthia Marie arrived in 1953, Patricia Lynn in 1954 and Dennis Edward in 1955. Their family was now complete and they lived in a modest home in North Highlands, California.
Dorothy worked graveyard shift at Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento as a pediatric nurse. This gave her time during the day to do things with her children. She gave her heart and soul to her family. She was a hard worker and saved so that her children could attend parochial school.
She was a devout Catholic and a compassionate caregiver. If any friend or family member was ever in need she would be there to help. She always selflessly put others ahead of herself. She was kind and gentle and loving.
After her children had grown she went back to school to get her Nurse Practitioner license. She was bright and energetic and determined to better herself. She worked for many years in private practice with two pediatricians and became the favorite of many of her patients.
She loved to travel and was lucky enough to spend time abroad with her husband. She loved the theater and saw several shows on Broadway and in San Francisco. Locally she was a season ticket holder to the Music Circus.
In 1972 her eldest child died of pneumonia. She never got over the death of her daughter. And in 1993 she became a widow as her husband succumbed to Alzheimer's disease. She was left a widow at 64 years old. But her job, family and friends took top priority in her life.
She continued to work well in to her 70s. When she finally retired she really missed the interaction with her patients. She kept busy gardening and was an avid reader. She loved to spend time in the mountains around Truckee and enjoyed her trips to Reno. She was a HUGE 49er fan and had a room filled with memorabilia. Rarely would she miss a televised game.
Dorothy had 4 children, 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Anne and her husband, Edward Ladrue.
Dorothy Gauthier was the most giving person, often going without so others may have more. She always had a smile on her face and an appreciation for those around her, a devoted wife and mother, an adoring and doting grandmother, and a true best friend. She was confident, caring and courageous. Her extended family and all who knew her will hold her memory in their hearts forever. She was God's gift to so many and will always be remembered as a most amazing person. SHE WAS BEAUTIFUL!
She left this world surrounded by family. We will miss her hugs and warmth. Our lives have been changed for the better because of this remarkable lady.
Be at peace Mom.
We Love You
