Stassi, Kathryn âKathyâ (Furrer)
Kathryn âKathyâ Stassi, was a successful Sacramento business woman, philanthropist,
entrepreneur and beloved Mother, Sister, and Grandmother who passed away on
November 24, 2017 after a brief, courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on February 6, 1944 and was lifetime resident of Sacramento and
graduated from Hiram Johnson High School in 1961. Kathy went on to become a
Registered Nurse and was employed by Sutter Memorial Hospital, and worked in the
ICU for many years before starting a new position as the Cardiovascular Coordinator for
the Cardiac Surgeons at Sutter Memorial. She was instrumental in guiding patients
and families through the cardiac surgery process.
After Kathyâs husband, Ken Stassi, unexpectedly passed 30 years ago, she opened
her own Home Health Care business and later started one of Sacramentoâs largest CPR
training centers, Heartbeat.
Despite the challenges of raising two children and running her own business, Kathy
always found time for those less fortunate. In retirement, she was involved in multiple
charities and was President of the Soroptimist International of Greater Sacramento
chapter. She was also a member of P.E.O. Chapter IP. In her free time, Kathy loved a
great game of bridge or dominoes and was a member of the Los Amigos Sacramento
Childrenâs Home.
She was a wonderful grandmother to her five grandchildren and was everyoneâs biggest
fan, always attending every birthday, school function, sporting event, dance recital, 4H
competition - anything they were involved in. Kathy also enjoyed being an active
member of the Grandparentâs Club at St. Michaelâs Episcopal Day School.
Kathy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, but especially her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken Stassi, and her parents Ernest & Betty
Furrer. She is survived by her daughter Kristin (Art) Venegas of Sacramento, son Kirt
(Susie) Stassi of Colusa, sister Beverly (Rick) Romero of Auburn, and sister Marian
(Don, deceased) Dilley of Sacramento; grandchildren Juliana Venegas, Nick Venegas,
Kyler Stassi, Cole Stassi, and Kallie Stassi, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Service at East Lawn
Memorial Park, 4300 Folsom Blvd. on Sunday, December 10th at 10 a.m. and a
Celebration of Life Reception immediately following at The Sutter Club, 1220 9th
Street.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Kathy Stassi
Scholarship Fund c/o Soroptimist International of Greater Sacramento (SIGS) who
provides scholarships and grants to students, women, and childrenâs
organizations: SIGS, PO Box 601504, Sacramento, CA 95860.
