Obituary for Duane Peterson

DUANE WILLIAM PETERSON 7/31/37 - 12/31/17 Duane Peterson was born in Duluth, Minnesota on July 31, 1937, to Walter and May Peterson. After graduating from East High School, Duane attended the University of Minnesota, Duluth and then attended North Park College in Chicago from which he graduated in 1960 with a double major of Business and Mathematics. Duane moved to Sacramento, California, in 1960 and started working at Aerojet. He attended CSUS taking business and education classes. Duane began teaching in the San Juan Unified School District in 1964. He later received his Masters Degree in Mathematics from Santa Clara University. Duane taught mathematics at Del Campo High School and was the Mathematics Department Chairman. He retired from the San Juan District in 1998, but he continued to teach at Sacramento City College for several years. Duane started to work on staff at Valley Hi Covenant Church (now Common Ground, a Covenant Church) on a volunteer basis and continued working there until 2015. Duane also enjoyed working for the County of Sacramento Elections where the helped teach classes to Precinct Workers prior to each election. A Memorial service will be held at 3:00 Sunday afternoon, January 7, at Common Ground, a Covenant Church. A viewing will be from 12:00 — 5:00, Saturday, January 6, at East Lawn Elk Grove, Memorial Park and Mortuary, 9189 East Stockton Blvd., Elk Grove. Duane has requested no flowers. Memorials in his honor may be given to Common Ground a Covenant Church, 8355 Arroyo Vista Drive, Sacramento, California 95823.
